The Digitization Process

The Sundancer project required a precise approach for a left-chest placement. Because the design was intended for cotton fabric, we had to account for how cotton fibers react to needle penetration. Cotton is a stable material, but if the stitch density is too high, it can create a stiff patch on the garment. Our goal was to create a design that felt light but looked sharp.

With a size constraint of 3.5 by 2.5 inches, we had to be careful with small details. We utilized a stitch count of 5,379 to ensure enough coverage without over-stuffing the area. By adjusting our underlay patterns, we built a foundation that held the design flat against the cotton surface, preventing any pulling or distortion during the embroidery process.

Overcoming Design Challenges

One of the primary challenges was balancing the bold elements of the Sundancer lettering with the finer details. We manually adjusted the entry and exit points for every segment of the design. This reduces the number of jump stitches and trims, leading to a much cleaner final product. We ensured that the satin stitch borders were uniform, providing a professional look that stands up to repeated washing.
