The Digitizing Process

When we received the DFEO artwork, our main goal was to ensure the design sat well on polyester fabric. Polyester is a synthetic material that can pucker if the stitch density is too high or if the underlay is not calculated correctly. We started by mapping the outline of the logo to ensure the edges were crisp. Since this is a left-chest application, the design needed to be compact and balanced at 3×3.75 inches.

We focused on keeping the stitch count at 6474, which provides enough coverage to make the colors pop without adding unnecessary weight to the garment. Too many stitches can make the fabric feel stiff, which is uncomfortable for the wearer. We balanced the density carefully, using a light underlay to stabilize the fabric before the top stitches were applied. This approach ensures the logo remains flat and professional after multiple washes.

The lettering presented a challenge due to the specific shapes in the logo. We adjusted the entry and exit points of each letter to minimize jump stitches. This keeps the back of the embroidery clean and prevents the bobbin thread from showing through on the front. By managing the pull compensation, we accounted for the way the fabric moves under the needle, ensuring the final logo matches the original artwork perfectly.
